This popular salad is very easy to prepare. Here's a basic recipe for Israeli salad, with suggested optional ingredients. This salad lends itself well to improvisation and experimentation!
For 2 à 4 people as a side salad (depending on how much salad you like!)
Basic ingredients:
- 3 cucumbers midsized
- 2 large tomatoes
- 1 bell pepper green or red
Seasoning:
- Olive oil
- Juice of fresh lemon (I always use the juice of at least one lemon)
- Salt according to your taste
- Pepper - optional
- Za'atar - optional
Instructions:
- The vegetables must be at room temperature .Finely chop all the vegetables (I use my onion chopper!). Peeling the cucumbers is optional.
- Place them in a large bowl, adding the ingredients .
- Just before serving, mix with the olive oil, then add the lemon juice and spices.
- Serve immediately. Betavon!
Ingredients – try adding them individually or in any combination!
- 2 tablespoons of parsley freshly chopped (flat sheet)
- 2 tablespoons of mint freshly chopped
- ½ carrot , peeled and cut into small cubes
- ¼ red onion , finely diced, or 2 green onions , finely diced
- 2 sheets of romaine lettuce , chopped
After dressing the salad, remember to garnish it with a handful of pita chips grilled, ¼ c pine nuts toasted and/or ¼ tsp of feta crumbled or goat cheese .
