Ingredients for the meatballs:
1 kg of minced beef
1 large onion, roughly chopped
5 cloves of garlic
½ bunch of parsley
1 large potato (to replace the breadcrumbs and eggs)
¼ cup of vegetable oil
Salt and pepper
2 nutmeg seeds
Ingredients for the sauce:
½ cup canola oil
10 onions, roughly chopped
Salt and pepper
¼ c.
Instructions :
1. Take the onion, garlic, parsley and potato and place in a food processor until a uniform (but still grainy) puree is achieved.
2. Mix the puree well with the meat and the remaining ingredients for the meatballs.
3. Form meatballs.
4. Heat the canola oil in a large saucepan. Add the chopped onion and spices.
5. Mix the onions with the oil in a saucepan, cover and cook for about 5 minutes over high heat.
6. Lower the heat and continue to cook the onions with the covered pan for another hour, stirring occasionally.
7. Add the meatballs to the pan and cover.
8. After 10 minutes, open the pan and gently move the onions, making sure they do not stick to the bottom of the pan.
9. Continue cooking the meatballs in a partially covered pan until the onions are soft and caramelized. This step could take an additional hour.
10. Remember to stir gently from time to time to ensure the meatballs retain their shape.
11. Serve and enjoy!
