Viennese bread originates from Vienna; it was an Austrian student who had the idea of making this appetizing bread from his homeland in the French capital. It's a very soft, lightly sweetened bread, perfect for breakfast. I found this recipe on the following link I've modified it a bit, but it's still a great recipe that's been tested 🙂
Ingredients :
250 g of flour
1 tablespoon of baker's yeast
100 ml of milk or soy milk (for a pareve recipe)
1 sachet of vanilla sugar
1 egg
30 grams of sugar
30g of butter (or margarine for pareve recipes).
Chocolate chips
Preparation :
Dissolve the yeast in the milk and let it rise for 10 minutes.
Mix the flour with the salt and sugar
Dig a well, pour in the milk, then add the butter.
Knead the dough for about 15 minutes
Place the ball of dough in a bowl.
Cover it with a cloth and let it rest for 2 hours in a warm place
Knead the dough lightly again
Then, add the chocolate chips and shape your baguettes.
Let it rise again for 1 hour
Preheat the oven to 240°C
Brush the baguettes with an egg
Make a slit along the entire length of the baguette and bake for 10 minutes.
Reduce the oven temperature to 180°C (350°F) and extend the cooking time by approximately 15 minutes.
