We often have leftover challah after Shabbat. It is said that throwing away bread leads to poverty, but it is also wasteful… and above all, a missed opportunity to prepare this ultra-quick recipe!
French toast is ideal for offering children a simple, delicious snack made with leftover bread. It's also Dad's favorite recipe!
Ingredients
- 2 or 3 leftover challahs or loaves of bread
- 300 g of sugar
- 3 eggs
- Soaked raisins
- 2 sachets of vanilla sugar
- 150g of butter
- ½ liter of milk
- Icing sugar for finishing
Preparation
- In a bowl, mix the eggs with the sugar, vanilla sugar and the previously soaked raisins. Set the mixture aside.
- Cut the challahs or loaves into thick slices.
- Dip the slices of bread in the milk.
- Heat a pan, then add 20g of butter.
- Gently squeeze each slice of bread between your hands to remove excess milk.
- Next, dip the slice in the egg mixture, then place it in the hot pan.
- Cook the French toast on both sides until nicely golden brown. Repeat with the remaining slices, adding butter as needed.
- Arrange the French toast in a dish and sprinkle with icing sugar.
Serve them while still hot or warm. Enjoy your meal!
